The history of the place
From the Unification of Italy to the present
It was 1864 when it was decided that Florence would become the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. And it was then that Giuseppe Poggi, a famous Florentine architect, was commissioned to design a panoramic terrace over the city: thus Piazzale Michelangelo was born and, with it, La Loggia.
